Iris’s Journey

September 24, 2007 – Iris Shanyue Tang was born in Evergreen Hospital at Kirkland, WA.

She was named after the renowned Chinese American journalist, Iris Chang. Her Chinese name, Shanyue (山月), means “moon over the mountain”.

She spent her first few years in her home in Sammamish before moving to Bellevue in mid-2010 and then to Redmond in mid-2012.

Her favorite activities during her early childhood and elementary school years included:

  • Playing at various playgrounds, such as those at Bennett Elementary School, Sherwood Forest Elementary School, Bellevue Crossroads Park, and Redmond Grass Lawn Park
  • Visiting the Bellevue Botanical Garden and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle with her family

The family moved to Duvall in mid-2018. While Iris attended Lakeside School, they spent much of their time at their second home in Edmonds. During her middle and high school years, Iris pursued a variety of interests, including swimming, crew, visual arts, and mathematics and robotics competitions, reflecting her creativity, determination, and love of learning.
